Members of the Grand River MQG support various charities through their quilting activities. Here are some projects we are actively involved in.
Fidget Quilts
Coordinator: Melissa
Fidget Quilts are lap-sized quilts made with a variety of fabrics and embellishments that provide comfort and textural stimulation to hospital patients with brain injuries or Alzheimer’s. These quilts are not about looks, but about feel. There is an ongoing need for Fidget Quilts. Please click here for guidelines, or contact Melissa for more information.
Monica Place
Coordinator: Johanna
Monica Place will gladly accept donations of quilts, including quilted pillows, to assist young mothers and their infants. Please contact Johanna with any questions about donating to this cause.
Quilted Pillows for Monica Place
MQG Charity Quilt Challenge
2020 quilt coordinator: Lisa J.
2021 quilt coordinator: Wendy C.
Each year, the MQG puts out a challenge to its chapter guilds to create a charity quilt of a specified theme, using selected challenge fabrics. The quilts are intended to be submitted to QuiltCon for display, before being returned to their guilds for donation.
Ronald McDonald House, Hamilton
Coordinator: Lisa M.
Ronald McDonald House accepts charity quilts to distribute to children from infancy to age 18, who are in care at McMaster Hospital. We would like to contribute to this effort by providing gender-neutral quilts, to comfort kids battling serious illness. Contact Lisa M. for more information.
